ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Soren, you call yourself the Personal Development Guy and you are currently working as a teacher, a speaker, a coach and guide in consciousness [LINK] plus a writer of books and articles while at the same time producing content for no less than three websites, this one included.
Even if you are not an animal like the rest of the Crazy Crew, you are still working like a horse ...
SOREN LAURITZEN: No, no! Sorry to interrupt you there, but I don't work. I don't LIKE to work.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: But you work all the time! I have seen you do it.
SOREN LAURITZEN: Oh, but that is not work [LINK]. Not to me, it isn't. That is play. Having fun. Enjoying life. Doing what I love. Doing what I am.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Doing what you are?
SOREN LAURITZEN: Yes. That is the point of it all, really, when it comes to doingness: Doing what you are.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Could you explain that, please?
SOREN LAURITZEN: Sure. Doing what you are means that you do 'work' about which you can say: "This is me!" and "I love doing this!" Things that you can identify with.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: That sounds nice. How do you know WHAT to do? What those things are?
SOREN LAURITZEN: Those would be the things that you do naturally. Things which are so easy and enjoyable for you that they seem like play to you. Things that you would do regardless of whether people pay you for doing them or not. Things that both you and other people benefit from.
When you do those things, you feel content or even happy. That is doing what you are.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: I see ...
SOREN LAURITZEN: Also, it's completely individual. As it would be, since every single one of us is unique.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Yes. And what would those things be for you?
SOREN LAURITZEN: Well, don't call the fire department, but I have this fire burning inside. There is something I really want to do. I want to explore and understand the human condition, and help raise human consciousness.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: That sounds like a noble goal. And a rather large one, at that. What might make you take on that task?
SOREN LAURITZEN: I have been raising my own consciousness for many years now and I find myself at a point where I can no longer tell the difference between raising my own consciousness and raising the consciousness of the rest of the world. Besides, it's just plain fun!
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Raising people's consciousness is fun?
SOREN LAURITZEN: Yeah. Inducing consciousness, so to speak. Great fun! You know what happened to me the other day?
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: No.
SOREN LAURITZEN: One of my friends owns a hot dog stand. He had to take a few hours off, and asked me to fill in for him. I happily agreed. I have always liked dogs. And cats, too. As long as it's not raining with them. But I digress. So here I was, a teacher of consciousness, minding my friend's hot dog stand, when a middle aged woman walked up to me. You know what she said?
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Well, no.
SOREN LAURITZEN: She said: "Make me one with everything!"
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Oh ... I mean OH!
SOREN LAURITZEN: Yes. Isn't that great? I might have waited for years just to have one of my pupils serve me that line. And now it was being served to me while I was serving hot dogs. Isn't life, the universe and everything just great?
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Yes, I guess.
SOREN LAURITZEN: But that isn't the best part. While I was making her hot dog, this lady tells me that she is a teacher of consciousness, too! She is a yogi, no less. I mean, how great is that?
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Pretty great, maybe. Perhaps.
SOREN LAURITZEN: I'm telling you it's great! Because this lady, she went on to pay me with the Danish equivalent of a 100 dollar bill. And seeing as how she is a yogi, I simply pocketed the bill and said thank you.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Wow. That was, er, different. What happened next?
SOREN LAURITZEN: Well, the lady yogi said, "Aren't you going to give me my change?" Which was just so perfect! So I told her the truth.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: You did? And what is that?
SOREN LAURITZEN: I looked the lady yogi right in the eyes and answered, "Nope. Change must come from within."
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Oh.
SOREN LAURITZEN: Yeah.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: Well, I don't know what to say.
SOREN LAURITZEN: Then don't say anything.
ELOQUENT ELEPHANT: I won't.
And thus endeth the interview.
